False Report of Stray Dog

On 04/08/25 at about 1118am the Ontario County Humane Society received a call from Mr. Scott reporting that there was a stray black and white running around his apartment complex and he was able to secure him and did not know who it's owner was. Officers from the Humane Society arrived and secured the dog, a male 2-3 year old Border Collie mix. After securing the dog and not being able to find the owner he was taken to the Humane Society. After arriving at the shelter a call was received from a witness who informed officers that the dog, named Olaf, was being taken care of by Mr. Scott for several days and he was unable to keep him in his apartment because he wasn't getting along with his cat. At this time he reported the dog as a stray knowing that he wasn't. Based on this investigation Mr. Scott was arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd degree and Animal Abandonment (both misdemeanors). Mr. Scott was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date and released. Olaf remains at the Ontario County Humane Society and will be placed up for adoption when ready. This investigation was in conjunction with the Ontario County Humane Society who assisted in it.
