Adella is a big, strong, muscular girl who doesn't realize her own size. This gentle giant just needs some extra time, gentle understanding, and love in order for her to show her true colors. While she is very shy and nervous around new people, once she knows and trusts you, her sweet, super goofy, and playful side shines right through!
Right now, the big world can feel a bit overwhelming for Adella. In particular, the noisy shelter environment with barking dogs causes her to freeze up and shut down from fear when it's time to go outside. In fact, sometimes our volunteers currently have to physically pick her up in their arms and carry her to the play yard. Because of this, Adella needs a patient adopter (with a bit of physical strength!) who understands that she may need to be gently carried or guided in the beginning. In a calm, low-traffic, loving home with adopters who let her adjust at her own pace, we fully expect her confidence to bloom.

Gus is a resilient soul who survived physical abuse in his past. Because of this trauma, Gus feels much safer around animals than people, and it takes time for him to build trust. Due to the severity of his past, fear can cause him to react defensively and he may bite if he feels overwhelmed or afraid of being hurt—which is why he needs an extraordinary, safety-minded adopter who respects his boundaries, moves at his pace, and is open to working alongside a positive dog trainer.
Because Gus needs thoughtful, calm introductions, all meetings with Gus are by appointment only. Every interaction will be structured to give him the comfortable, predictable environment he needs to succeed.
Gus tends to build trust much more naturally with women—though patient men are welcome, as long as they understand his process requires time. He will thrive best in a calm, low-traffic environment—ideally a quiet life in the country where he won't feel overwhelmed by crowds or strangers.
Gus has an exceptionally gentle heart with other animals. He is completely unbothered by cats and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. In fact, we regularly use Gus as our shelter's resident "emotional support dog" to help timid or terrified pups feel brave enough to walk outside!

One of our volunteers noted that this gorgeous brindle beauty reminds her of a 1940s movie star—and we completely see it! She is smart, confident, and has a big personality. She knows what she likes, where she wants to go, and she can even operate a car window!
Mama had a hard start in life. For the first 4–5 years, she was kept in a room and used for breeding. She originally arrived at the shelter with a full litter of puppies. While all of her puppies found their forever families, Mama is still patiently waiting for her turn to be rescued. Having spent so long never truly being anyone’s one-and-only, she simply wants to be seen, chosen, and cherished. She is done sharing her people and needs to be the center of your universe!
Mama would be great for a family that enjoys taking their dog on outings, drives, and local explorations!

We are always sad when a dog is returned to the shelter, but for Honey, it broke all of our hearts. Even with our dedicated staff and volunteers giving her endless love and attention, any shelter environment is naturally busy and noisy. Honey is a sweet, sensitive soul who finds the bustling shelter overwhelming. While some dogs manage to push through, Honey slowly shuts down from the stress. Seeing a sweet girl who was once glowing, relaxed, and thriving in a real home now sitting in a kennel, lonely, confused, abandoned, and heartbroken breaks our hearts every day.
Through no fault of her own, a major life change for her adopter brought her back to us. Honey is now waiting anxiously for someone to rescue her.

Bear simply wants to be seen, chosen, and loved. Bear was recently adopted and unfortunately returned to the shelter. Historically, Bear has always gotten along wonderfully with other dogs. However, during his time in his adoptive home, a new behavior developed: he gets very jealous when another dog approaches his people. He has started resource-guarding his humans because he is so afraid of losing the love he craved for so long. Because of this, Bear will do best as the only dog in the home for now, or with an experienced adopter ready to work together with a positive trainer to help him feel secure.
