Services Overview

The Ontario County Humane Society was established in 1989 as a 501-C3, not for profit organization. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

The County of Ontario and the Ontario County Humane Society entered into a contract to provide dog control to the county and on October 1, 1989 opened Happy Tails Animal Shelter.

Our contract with the County is governed by the Agricultural and Market Laws of New York State, guiding us on the laws of dog control and rabies control. Centrally located and servicing the cities of Canandaigua and Geneva and the towns of Bristol, Canadice, Canandaigua, East Bloomfield, Farmington, Geneva, Gorham, Hopewell, Manchester, Naples, Phelps, Richmond, Seneca, South Bristol, Victor, and West Bloomfield our shelter houses stray, lost or unwanted cats and dogs until they are redeemed by their owners, or placed in a new loving home.

Programs that are funded by the Board of Director’s, that are not paid for by the County or any part of the County Contract include the following: Animal Cruelty Investigation, Care of Abused Animals, Education Program , Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program, Low Cost Senior Adoption Program, Cat Care Program, Adoption Program, Cremation among others.

These Programs are supported by the generosity of the community through Humane Society Memberships , Fund Raising , Donations, Memorials , Grants, Bequests and Endowments .
